How to Port Your giffgaff Number to a New UK Network

To port a giffgaff number, start with a valid PAC and an activated SIM or eSIM from the receiving provider. Submit the code to that provider, keep the old line available, and verify calls, texts and data before treating the move as complete.

Activate the receiving line first

Activate the new provider's SIM or eSIM and test its temporary number, account access, calls, texts and mobile data. Keep the old giffgaff SIM and do not cancel it before the port.

Submit the PAC securely

  1. 1

    Open the transfer form

Use the receiving provider's Keep my number or Transfer my number page.
  2. 2

    Enter the details

Provide the old giffgaff number, temporary number, valid PAC and an available date.
  3. 3

    Keep the confirmation

Save the submission date, confirmation and promised completion date.

The receiving provider starts the port. The old mobile service ends when the number transfer completes.

Test the transfer in order

CheckActionPass condition
InboundCall the old numberThe new line rings
OutboundCall from the new lineThe old number appears
TextsSend and receive a normal SMSBoth directions work
DataBrowse with Wi-Fi offThe new plan provides data

Test platform verification messages only after ordinary calls and texts work.

Escalate a partial port to the receiving provider

If calls, caller ID and texts split between the two SIMs, record the old number, temporary number, date and exact symptoms. Contact the receiving provider first because it submitted the PAC. Contact giffgaff after the receiving provider confirms its side is complete.

Confirm what did and did not move

The PAC moves the phone number only. Airtime credit, unused plan allowances and Payback points do not become credit with the new provider. An unfinished 18-month contract may also incur an early termination charge.

The job is complete when inbound calls, outbound caller ID, ordinary SMS in both directions and mobile data all work on the new line.

Porting questions

Should I cancel giffgaff before the port?expand_more
No. The receiving provider arranges the transfer and the old service ends when the port completes.
Why do verification texts still fail?expand_more
If ordinary SMS works, the remaining issue may belong to the platform's own messaging route or risk controls.
Does my balance move with the number?expand_more
No. The PAC moves the number, not airtime credit, allowances or Payback points.
