First: identify what happened
| What happened | Possible cause | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| A disabled or suspended email arrived | Security, unusual use, payment or terms review | Save the email and account evidence, then ask an agent for the exact reason and a manual review |
| The number disappeared after a long period without use | Deactivation after six months without qualifying activity | Ask immediately about a PAC and remaining airtime credit; the 30-day window matters |
| The SIM has no signal but the account and number still appear | Roaming, network selection, device or SIM problem | Use the troubleshooting guide before treating it as a suspension |
| The account cannot be accessed | Login details, email access or security verification problem | Use the giffgaff login-problem form to contact support |
Preserve the evidence
- check_circleA full screenshot of the deactivation email, including sender, date, subject and body.
- check_circleScreenshots of the dashboard, number, credit, plan, error message and any “Not available” page.
- check_circleTop-up, plan purchase, card charge and refund records.
- check_circleThe giffgaff member name, registered email, UK number and SIM serial number when available.
- check_circleA short factual description of recent legitimate personal use.
Evidence helps an agent verify ownership and identify the reason. Do not submit a false UK address, spoofed location or invented usage history.
Contact a giffgaff agent through the official route
- 1
If the account is accessible
- 2
If sign-in is impossible
Use the giffgaff login-problem form with a reachable email address, member name, number and exact error. - 3
Ask four clear questions
Request the exact reason, a manual review, confirmation of PAC eligibility, and a list of refundable airtime credit or unused services. - 4
Keep the case history
Save the submission date, case number, agent reply and promised response time for any PAC, refund or complaint follow-up.
Copy-and-edit appeal template
Keep only statements that are factually accurate. Add the deactivation date for inactivity cases, or quote the exact security or payment message when one was provided.
Ask for a PAC immediately if the number matters
A PAC transfers the existing UK number to another UK network. giffgaff says that a number deactivated for inactivity can still receive a PAC through an agent within 30 days; after that, the number may be recycled.
After receiving the code, continue with the PAC transfer guide for VOXI and CTExcel. A PAC normally expires after 30 days.
Request any eligible balance refund
After inactivity deactivation, remaining airtime credit must be requested through an agent within 30 days. giffgaff may require the original payment card to be added back to the account. Eligibility and payment method depend on the agent's response.
- check_circleIdentify the item being requested: airtime credit, an unused plan or a duplicate charge.
- check_circleProvide the payment date, amount, payment method details and matching receipt or bank record.
- check_circleAsk for written confirmation of what is and is not refundable, with the relevant policy.
- check_circlegiffgaff may refuse some or all refunds after security, abuse or non-permitted-use deactivation.
Move critical account recovery methods
- check_circlePrioritise email, banking, payments, trading accounts and primary social accounts.
- check_circleAdd an authenticator, recovery codes, backup email or another long-term number.
- check_circleChange the verification method while access still works rather than waiting for the number to be recycled.
- check_circleFor apps such as WhatsApp, add available email, PIN and recovery information; continued access depends on that platform's rules.
A PAC protects the UK number only. It does not replace a third-party platform's own recovery process.
Methods not recommended
- check_circleUsing a UK IP, overseas WiFi Calling or modified location as proof of being in the UK.
- check_circleInventing a UK address, device location or usage history.
- check_circleContinuing bulk sign-ups, third-party code collection or unrelated account sharing.
- check_circleAdding more credit before understanding the restriction and expecting payment to remove it.
If the appeal does not resolve the issue
After an agent gives a final response, unresolved disputes can follow the official giffgaff complaints process. Include the original case, timeline, payment evidence and the specific outcome requested.
