Can you change your ENC Mobile number? Random numbers, recycled numbers, choosing, changing and replacing the SIM explained (2026)

You cannot choose an ENC number, and the SIM sold by LarkSIM cannot change its number either: the carrier's system assigns one at random from the ZIP code you enter at activation, and it may be a recycled number with a history. What you can change is the SIM: ENC says swapping between a physical SIM and eSIM, or replacing a lost SIM, keeps the same number. This guide covers choosing, changing, recycled numbers, replacements and porting in, so read it before ordering if a random number bothers you. If it does not, the case for the US T-Mobile physical SIM (ENC) is: $28 (about ¥199) including the first month's 30 minutes and 100 texts, a real T-Mobile +1 number, shipped to China and tested before dispatch.

How the number is assigned: the ZIP code is your only choice

ENC says new numbers are generated at random from the ZIP code you enter at activation, and choosing a number is not offered (ENC Mobile FAQ explained). The SIM sold by LarkSIM is the same: the carrier's system assigns the number at random, and it cannot be chosen or changed.

The one thing you decide at activation is that US ZIP code. It has nothing to do with your delivery address in China, but it decides two things: the area the number comes from and your monthly taxes from then on. So choose the ZIP for tax, ideally in a tax-free or low-tax state; the number itself is out of your hands, so there is no point agonising over it.

What a recycled number means, and what to do about it

US carriers reclaim numbers that go unused and assign them to new customers. So a randomly assigned number may have belonged to someone else, who may have linked it to some platforms. The product page is explicit: you may get a number with a history, it cannot be changed, and you should not order if that matters to you.

What you might run into, and what to do:

  • check_circleTexts or calls from strangers: usually meant for the previous owner. Ignore them and never reply to code messages.
  • check_circleA platform says the number is already in use: it was linked to an account there before. Use the platform's appeal or support process, or use a different number for that platform; this is outside after-sales support.
  • check_circleA platform will not send a code: each platform decides whether to send codes, and your IP can play a part. Check your network first and do not keep resending.

What you can change is the SIM: replacements, new phones, switching to eSIM

The number cannot change, but the SIM can, because the number belongs to the account, not to the piece of plastic. For a direct ENC account the rules are:

  • check_circlePhysical SIM ↔ eSIM: choose the switch in the account centre; give a delivery address for a physical SIM or the phone's IMEI for an eSIM.
  • check_circleLost SIM: order a replacement in the account centre; the number stays the same.
  • check_circleCost: each number includes one free swap or replacement, then $10 each time.

Renewals and after-sales for the SIM sold by LarkSIM go through LarkSIM support. If it is lost or damaged, email support@larksim.com with your order number and US number and ask whether and how it can be replaced, rather than changing anything on the ENC site yourself.

Moving to a new phone is simpler: take the SIM out, put it in the new phone, and switch on Settings → Phone → Wi-Fi Calling again. The new phone must also qualify: iPhone 6S or later, unlocked, and not jailbroken or sticker-unlocked.

Can I port my existing US number in?

ENC supports porting in: you need the old carrier's account number, a transfer PIN and the billing address, and it usually completes in 10 minutes to 2 hours. That is an option when opening a direct ENC account.

The SIM sold by LarkSIM comes with a new number, and the product page does not offer porting in. If you already have a US number and only want a cheaper way to keep it, email support before ordering.

Why buy this SIM from LarkSIM

If a random number is fine with you, these are the reasons to order here:

  • check_circleFirst month included: $28 (about ¥199) covers the first month's 30 US minutes and 100 US texts.
  • check_circleA real carrier number: a T-Mobile +1 mobile number, not VoIP and not a shared code-website number; it is yours alone.
  • check_circleTested before dispatch: shipped to your address in China and working after 3 steps and about 5 minutes.
  • check_circleRenew with one email: email support before the plan ends; ¥66–99 a month keeps the number.

Buy the US T-Mobile physical SIM (ENC) now: $28 (about ¥199) including the first month.

The number cannot be changed, so keep it safe

  • check_circleWrite down the number and ICCID: once activated, save the US number and the ICCID printed on the SIM; you need them for renewals, replacements and support.
  • check_circleRenew on time: the number is cancelled after 30 days suspended and cannot be recovered. Put the date in your calendar and email support a few days early.
  • check_circleGive important accounts a fallback: add an email or another verification method to your Apple ID and overseas accounts as well as this number.

If a random number is fine, you can order

An ENC number cannot be chosen or changed; the activation ZIP code is your only choice, and swapping the SIM keeps the number. If a random or recycled number bothers you, do not buy. If it does not, the US T-Mobile physical SIM (ENC) is one of the easiest ways to get a real US +1 number from China: $28 (about ¥199) including the first month's 30 minutes and 100 texts, shipped to China and tested before dispatch, renewed by email.

Order the US T-Mobile physical SIM (ENC) now, follow the activation guide when it arrives, write the number down, and renew on time.

FAQ

Can I choose my ENC number?expand_more
No. ENC generates new numbers at random from the ZIP code entered at activation, and the SIM from LarkSIM is also assigned at random.
Can I change the number but keep the SIM?expand_more
The SIM sold by LarkSIM cannot change its number. The ENC FAQ does not describe a number change, so a direct account holder would need to ask ENC support.
What if my number was used before?expand_more
US carriers recycle numbers, and the product page says you may get one with a history that cannot be changed. Ignore stray texts; if a platform says the number is already in use, appeal to the platform or use another number there. This is outside after-sales support.
If I lose the SIM, do I lose the number?expand_more
On a direct ENC account, a replacement keeps the number; the first is free and later ones cost $10. If you lose the SIM from LarkSIM, email LarkSIM support with your order number and US number.
Can I move my existing US number to this SIM?expand_more
Direct ENC accounts support porting in. The SIM from LarkSIM comes with a new number and the product page does not offer porting in, so ask support first.
Does the number change when I switch phones?expand_more
No. Put the SIM in the new phone and turn Wi-Fi Calling back on. The new phone must be an iPhone 6S or later, unlocked, and not jailbroken or sticker-unlocked.
