giffgaff Family Plan: Manage Multiple SIMs and Accounts (2026)
A practical giffgaff family plan uses one SIM, number and account for each person, then brings those accounts together inside the giffgaff app. The app makes switching and day-to-day checks convenient, while each line keeps its own plan, credit, renewal settings and service history.

Use separate accounts with one management app
giffgaff's current guidance says one account can have one active physical SIM or eSIM at a time. A household that needs three different numbers should therefore create three accounts. Each person keeps an independent number, plan, credit balance and service record.
| Household item | Recommended setup |
|---|---|
| Number and SIM | One SIM and number for each person |
| giffgaff account | A separate account for every SIM |
| Plan and credit | Purchased and reviewed per account |
| Daily management | Add the accounts to one giffgaff app and switch between them |
This keeps ownership clear while still allowing a parent or household manager to check several lines from one device.
Assign every SIM before activation
Label each SIM pack with the intended user before opening and activating several cards. Complete one card at a time and record the member name and new number as soon as they appear.
If another household member still needs a physical card, use the verified giffgaff SIM product page. The card still needs its own account after delivery.
Activate one separate account for each line
Finish one activation and confirm its number before starting the next. Choose member names that are easy to distinguish and record the recovery method for the person who owns the line.
Choose a plan or keep credit separately for each account. Household members do not need identical plans. Before enabling auto-renew or making a payment, confirm which number is currently displayed.
Test at least one call, text or mobile-data session on each line before moving to the next card. That gives every account a verified endpoint.
Add the family accounts to the giffgaff app
The current giffgaff app supports multiple accounts. Sign in to one activated account, then add the others:
- check_circleOpen Account in the giffgaff app.
- check_circleTap the person icon with a plus sign in the top-right corner.
- check_circleChoose Add account.
- check_circleSign in to the next account and complete verification.
- check_circleReturn to the account list and tap the number you want to manage.
Always check the displayed number before buying a plan, adding credit or changing renewal settings. The app creates a shared control point; it does not merge the accounts.
Two giffgaff lines in one phone still need two accounts
A dual-SIM phone can use two different giffgaff lines, including a physical SIM and an eSIM, when the handset supports that combination. The lines must use different numbers and separate giffgaff accounts.
Give the lines clear labels such as Personal and Child backup, then choose the default call, text and data line in the handset settings. Converting one line to eSIM is a separate task covered by the giffgaff eSIM guide.
Keep one household record
A short record prevents mistakes when a phone, plan or SIM changes. Update only the affected line.
| Person | Record |
|---|---|
| Each user | giffgaff number, member name and recovery email |
| Payer | Current plan, auto-renew status and payment-method last four digits |
| Device | Phone model, physical SIM or eSIM, and handset label |
| After a SIM change | Change date, old-SIM status and new-SIM test result |
When a child later takes control of the number, the recovery email and password management can move to that person without changing the other family accounts.
The five-point completion check
- check_circleEvery SIM has its own number and account.
- check_circleAll managed accounts appear in the giffgaff app.
- check_circlePlan, credit and auto-renew settings were checked per line.
- check_circleThe phone number or member name is recorded for shared-email logins.
- check_circleEvery SIM completed at least one call, text or data test.
Once these five checks pass, the household setup is complete. Add future lines in the same order: assign the SIM, create the separate account, verify the number, then add it to the app. Remember that one management app is not one shared account.
