giffgaff Switzerland Roaming: 1GB Landing Data and Costs (2026)

Switzerland works, but it is not standard EU roaming

If your question is does giffgaff cover Switzerland, the SIM can connect to a local partner network, but Switzerland is outside the regular EU roaming allowance. The same exception applies to the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey.

This is where giffgaff Europe data searches can be misleading. Eligible travel in other EU Zone destinations currently includes plan calls and texts plus up to 5GB of data. Crossing into Switzerland changes the charging rules.

The 1GB Landing Data allowance is conditional

giffgaff currently includes Switzerland in its Landing Data promotion. An eligible member can receive 1GB for up to three hours after arrival. It is useful for opening maps, contacting a pickup or arranging longer-term data, but it is not free roaming for the whole trip.

What happens after three hours or 1GB

Landing Data ends when either 1GB is used or the three-hour window expires. Continued use then needs an applicable Travel Add-on, another eligible plan option, or PAYG charging from airtime credit.

The current standard Switzerland mobile-data rate is 20p per MB. At that rate, 100MB costs £20. Photo syncing, system updates, cached maps and messaging downloads can use credit in the background.

For ongoing navigation, video calls or photo uploads, compare the Travel Add-on with a separate travel-data SIM before departure. Avoid starting with PAYG and changing plans only after credit has already fallen.

   Plan beyond the arrival window

   Choose a Travel Add-on, another data SIM or no mobile data before the three-hour allowance could end.
